Burger King Officially Debuts Meatless Impossible Whopper

May 2024 · 2 minute read

Burger King is throwing customers for a loop on April Fools’ Day! The fast-food chain announced on Monday, April 1, that it is now serving Impossible Whoppers – a vegetarian-friendly take on its classic meat-centric dish at certain restaurants. While the announcement itself is legit, the Miami-based brand opted to have a little fun with the rollout.

More specifically, Burger King recently surprised a few loyal guests by serving the Impossible Whopper instead of the classic Whopper and filmed their reactions. The “experiment,” which was designed to evaluate how well Whopper fans know the beloved burger, had some interesting results.

“You’re f–king kidding me,” exclaimed one Whopper aficionado after he learned the burger he just ate was made from plants, not beef. “This is a f–king cow.”

Added a man who said he’s eaten approximately two Whoppers a week for the last two decades: “That’s impossible. It tasted just like a Whopper should taste.”

One “confused” customer who thought he was eating meat when he was actually chowing down on a veggie-filled alternative, even admitted the trick had led him to “re-evaluate my life.”

Unlike the beef-based traditional Whopper, the Impossible Whopper consists of a flame-grilled, plant-based patty topped with freshly sliced tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, crunchy pickles and sliced white onions on a toasted sesame seed bun.

So how can you get your hands on this protein-packed alternative? Per a press release shared with Us Weekly, the plant-based food is currently only available at 59 Burger King restaurants in and around St. Louis, Missouri, which are now taking the food for a test run.

However, given the positive reactions to the Impossible Whopper thus far, it’s hard to imagine the burger won’t eventually be available nationwide
