Carrie Underwood's Flat Belly Secret Is to Eliminate This From Dinner

May 2024 · 2 minute read

It’s all in the timing! Carrie Underwood loves bread, but you won’t see her eating it in the evening.

The new mom, who welcomed baby Isaiah Fisher in February, recently revealed that she skips her beloved carb at night, and that’s helped her keep her tummy taught. “I’m vegan and I love bread, but recently, I started making dinner a breadless meal,” the wife of hockey player Mike Fisher, 35, says in the November issue of Shape. “I’ll have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, and I’ll make a sandwich on Ezekiel bread for lunch, but in the evening I’ll have protein and vegetables and no bread. When I wake up, my belly is flat!”

Of course dinner isn’t the only time the American Idol alum, who is currently promoting her newest album, Storyteller, is focused on her health. She also takes 30 minutes to exercise every day. “After I had [7-month-old] Isaiah, my goal was to take control of my body again,” she said. “I was lucky: I gained only 30 pounds, which is the recommended amount, and I exercised throughout my pregnancy… When I got the okay from my doctor, I started exercising with my trainer. Now we box and we hike trails, among other things. I like to continually mix up my routines to stay motivated.”

Underwood, who is co-hosting the Country Music Association Awards with Brad Paisley on Nov. 4, does have a favorite workout, though: Tabata. “I can do [Tabata] at home in about a half hour. I’m in love with it!” she told the fitness mag. “It’s hard, but it really works. I choose seven different exercises, like squats, lunges, or push-ups, and do eight rounds of each—20 seconds on, 20 seconds off for eight rounds. It really revs up my metabolism.”
