Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, born in Hayward, California, on May 2, 1972, has made the leap from professional wrestler to highly sought-after A-list movie star.

Johnson is the son of late pro wrestler Rocky Johnson and Ata Johnson (née Maivia). He scored a football scholarship at the University of Miami and after graduating with a Bachelor of General Studies in criminology and physiology in 1995, he briefly played as a linebacker for the Calgary Stampeders with the Canadian Football League.

After being cut from the Stampeders, Johnson followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps by becoming a pro wrestler. He made his WWE debut in 1996 and as The Rock went on to win 17 championship titles before his initial retirement in 2004. He eventually parted ways with the wrestling world for good in 2019.

Though Johnson acting appearances throughout his WWE run, he went on to find greater success onscreen following his 2004 retirement. He starred in blockbuster films including the Fast & Furious franchise, San Andreas, Moana and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He also found success on the small screen through shows like Ballers, which he executive produced and starred in.

Outside of acting, Johnson owns a production company called Seven Bucks Productions and launched an apparel line through Under Armor called Project Rock.

The star was married to Dany Garcia from 1997 to 2008, and he later wed Lauren Hashian in 2019. He shares his eldest daughter, Simone, with Garcia and his youngest children, Jasmine and Tiana, with Hashian.
