Funniest mom on the block?!
Ellen DeGeneres often invites talented kids onto her daytime talk show, but has rarely spoken about wanting to become a mother herself. That all changed, however, when she recently sat down with the Today show’s Matt Lauer.
“I think I would. But that’s not enough to have kids. I love kids. But that’s such a big commitment,” DeGeneres, 57, said to the NBC veteran. “And it seems long-term. It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don’t know if I can — it’s too risky.”
The comedienne, married to actress Portia de Rossi since August 2008, made light of the question. After all, her child would be compared to some of her past guests.
“Like, what if I don’t like the kid?” she said, laughing. “What if it turns out that it’s not as cute as I wanted or as talented? I’m gonna compare it to all these kids that I have on this show that are so smart and so funny. And I’m like, ‘You are nowhere near these kids I had on today.'”
Back in May 2008, DeGeneres famously announced on her show that she and the Arrested Development alum, 42, would be getting married. At the time, the California Supreme Court overturned the state’s ban on gay marriage. DeGeneres, who came out in 1997, has had to defend their marriage and relationship amid occasional tabloid rumors of trouble.
“There doesn’t even need to be a [thick] skin, ’cause it’s not real,” she told Lauer of the constant divorce rumors. “I’m just more flabbergasted by the fact that someone needs to make up a story.”
“There’s never been a point where we were breaking up or divorcing or fighting,” she said, adding that she doesn’t even have a publicist. “None of these stories are even remotely true.”

For now, DeGeneres continues to cheer de Rossi’s juicy Scandal guest star gig and continues to make tens of millions of fans laugh every day. As for how long she will continue The Ellen DeGeneres Show?
“I can’t answer that question right now, I really can’t,” she said of the program, which premiered in 2003. “Some days I’m tired and some days even when I’m tired and I get here — the audience is unbelievable.” She joked: “When we only have seven people here [in the audience] I’ll know that’s the time to go.”
