Gone Baby Gone actor Sean Malone has died more than a week after a near-drowning incident, the Boston Fire Department confirmed on Wednesday, July 29. He was 54.
"Sean Malone succumbed to his injuries this evening," the Boston Fire Department's official Twitter handle shared late Wednesday. "[He was] surrounded by his son Sean, parents and siblings at Boston Medical Center."
The actor had been hospitalized in a coma since July 20, when he nearly drowned at a beach in South Boston. According to the Boston Globe, Malone swam too far out in the waters and was rescued by an off-duty firefighter Chris Flaherty.
At the time, Flaherty paddle boarded out to Malone, and found him floating unconscious in the sea. The firefighter got help from a nearby powerboat filled with teens and told them to "get him to shore as fast as you can." Once the group was back on land, the actor received CPR and chest compressions from two other off-duty firefighters.
