Joan would have loved it! Melissa Rivers accepted a posthumous Grammy Award on behalf of her late mother Joan Rivers on Sunday, Feb. 8.

Accompanying the Fashion Police executive producer on the red carpet outside of the Staples Center in L.A., was her 14-year-old son, Cooper, who looked dapper in a black tuxedo. Joan received a 2015 Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for her last and final memoir, Diary of a Mad Diva. (Melissa shares Cooper with her ex-husband John Endicott.)

“My mother would be absolutely thrilled to be here,” Melissa, 47, said as she received the honor, adding a dose of Joan-approved humor. “She loved getting anything — If she thought she could get something at a Waffle House in Secaucus, she would be there.”

The Fashion Police crew also reacted to Joan’s Grammy award on Sunday with happiness. Co-host Giuliana Rancic spoke to Melissa about the special moment on the red carpet.

“It’s a difficult moment, it’s a little bittersweet,” an emotional Melissa said on the red carpet. “She was nominated once for her comedy album. Never ever was she nominated for any of her books. Now she goes and wins, but it’s wonderful how loved she was and how she’s getting so much attention now. People are really understanding what she was all about.”

Melissa, meanwhile, looked elegant in a dramatic black skirt and matching tuxedo jacket lined with satin and embellished with crystals.

Joan passed away last September at age 81 after suffering complications from minor throat surgery. Melissa filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit last month against the clinic and doctors who operated on Joan shortly before her death.
