Well, this is more than slightly awkward — an irreverent Jenny McCarthy grilled Nick Lachey during an interview on Wednesday, Nov. 12, on everything from the babies he didn’t have with ex-wife Jessica Simpson to his sex life with his pregnant wife Vanessa Lachey.
“How happy are you that you didn’t have a baby with Jessica?” McCarthy boldly asked Lachey during the chat on her SiriusXM show Dirty, Sexy, Funny.
“In our situation, that was probably the best thing that could have ever happened that we didn’t have kids,” replied Lachey, who split from the singer in 2005 after three years of marriage. “And look, you’re always going to love your kids no matter how you feel about their other parent, but all things being equal, it was the best thing probably for both of us that we went on with our lives. She’s obviously happily married with two and I’m happily married and about to have two so it all worked out the way it was kind of meant to work out,” he added. (Simpson’s happily ever after came with husband Eric Johnson and their two kids Maxwell, 2, and Ace, 16 months; Nick and Vanessa are parents to son Camden, 2, with a little girl on the way.)
The former Newlyweds stars don’t keep in touch, however. “She and I don’t necessarily stay in each others lives,” the VH1 host, 41, told McCarthy. “I wouldn’t say it’s friends and I wouldn’t say it’s enemies — there is just no contact. We both moved on with our lives…it’s not animosity, it’s not friendship, it’s just kind of nothing.”

Not stopping there, McCarthy asked if Nick “hisses” at the TV when she appears. “I don’t rush right down to Macy’s and buy a bunch of clothes or shoes, but I also don’t hiss at the TV — it’s somewhere in the middle,” he quipped of 34-year-old Simpson, now a hugely successful fashion designer.
Exes aside, McCarthy opted to then ask the singer if he’s currently having sex with with Vanessa, 34, during her second pregnancy. “You get to this point, you’ve got to get very creative with your positioning,” Nick said while laughing. “[But], I’m not sure she’s that comfortable right now with much of anything, including sex, its been an uncomfortable time when you get into the last month and a half…It was my birthday weekend this [past] weekend though, so I did howl at the moon a couple times.”
