Trans-forming lives! Comedian Rob Huebel hit the career jackpot when he joined the cast of the Golden Globe-winning series Transparent. But the TV veteran, 46, also revealed to HuffPost Live that becoming a part of the show opened his eyes to a whole new world.
“I’m embarrassed, but I didn’t know any trans people before the show,” he admitted. “The show has introduced me to a lot of people that are just like everybody else.”
Huebel plays Len Novak, the son-in-law of trans woman Maura Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor).
“I’m really lucky to be on that show because a lot of times you work on things and it just doesn’t turn out well or it’s not well written, but that was like such a smartly written show and good acting,” he said of the Amazon series, which is currently filming its second season. “And it happens to be about something that is coming to the forefront of the cultural conversation.”
Huebel remained optimistic about Middle America’s take on the trans movement, saying, “Culturally it just takes a while for people to catch on.”
He thinks the genius of the show is not focusing solely on the trans character, Maura, but rather the family as a whole.

“Season 2 — we’re right in the middle of shooting it right now — there’s more stuff about the family, about the history of the family,” he dished.
Season 2 of Transparent will premiere on Dec. 4 on Amazon.
