YouTube Celebrates Same-Sex Marriage With Viral Video

May 2024 · 1 minute read

Brb, crying! Like many other brands across the Internet, YouTube celebrated the Supreme Court's historic legalization of same-sex marriage in the nation on Friday, June 26, with a beautiful, emotional, and (of course!) viral video.

The video streaming service, which has advocated gay rights for many years and served as a platform for countless coming-out announcements, rapidly posted a response titled, "#ProudToLove – Celebrating Marriage Equality and LGBT Pride Month."

The two-minute, 24-second clip, directed by Whirled's Scott Chan, includes a mix of personal messages of those who've previously come out as gay via the platform. Joining the montage are celebrities like Laverne Cox and Ellen Page, who have publicly come out within the LGBT community, and lended their support to those hoping to do the same.

YouTube's video also includes activists looking to pass legislation to legalize same-sex marriage, as well as a lovely montage of gay couples getting engaged and tying the knot.

"We're proud to support those who inspire change and move us forward," the video concludes, with its rainbow-branded logo. "#ProudToLove."
